Shine for the SCBWI Jan/Feb inspiration challenge:

The SCBWI Bulletin is in black and white but I did it originally in color, so here are both. I was remembering the Waldorf School lantern festivals that we use to take our daughters to.

2013 SCBWI Tomie dePaola Award

This was my entry this year for the Tomie dePaola Award.
Tomie's directions were to  illustrate the poem, Sneeze  with  an 8 by 8"inch composition
using any color or medium. The illustration was to target the 2 months to 2 year age group!
You can find the other entries in the Unofficial Gallery of the Tomie dePaola Award
and see the winners at http://www.scbwi.org/winner-of-the-2014-tomie-depaola-award-is-announced/

Sneeze

My black and white  illustration of Little Women won an honorable mention from Tomie dePaola last year. It was a challenge to have to use only black and white!

This is the 2013 First Prize winning illustration from Akiko White :

Here is my friend Rowena Russell's entry, I love the simplicity and idea of the sneezing snowman!

Digital Images: Which is larger, KB or MB?

 Whenever I apply  to a grant or project, I am always having to remember which is which with   MB and KB's so that I can send the correct size digital  image.

I thought I would write this out once and for all!

Byte=8bits

Kilobyte= KB=1,000 bytes

Megabyte= MB= 1,000,000 bytes= 100 KB's

Hope this helps anyone else with your applications!

The renowned  illustrator Quentin  Blake inspires me so much that I wanted to share this video for my first artist process entry. Here is an illustrator who doesn't seem to bother with the computer  and doesn't need it! Mostly I love  the movement and expression in his lines and ease of coloring seemingly without fuss. It is also a reminder to draw and redraw and redraw...
